Bomb Squad Called to Steele for Old Hand Grenade

The Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Squad was called to Steele, Missouri, on Friday, March 20th.

Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield reports that a Steele Police Officer, along with a Pemiscot County Sheriff Deputy, responded to a report from a citizen who had located what was described as an old military hand grenade. The grenade appeared to be non-functioning and posed no immediate threat.

As a precaution, the officers contact the ATF who dispatched the Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Squad to assess the device. Upon examination, the devicae was determined to be safe and not a threat. The bomb squad did take possession of the item.

Chief Stanfield emphasizes that at no time was anyone in any immediate danger.
