
A former North Pemiscot R-1 School District employee is facing federal criminal charges in connection with stolen district money.
A letter from Superintendent Kim Emmons dated February 11th and addressed to parents, guardians and community members of the North Pemiscot School District stated, “a former employee has been federally charged with bank fraud related to district funds.”
According to the grand jury indictment, the former employee identified as Tammy L. Barnes, was a secretary and bookkeeper for the school district. The indictment shows that Barnes is accused of transferring money approximately 57 times from the district’s bank account to her personal account between December 2018 to June 2024, with transactions ranging from $11,000 to just over $57,000, and totaling close to $1.3 million.
The indictment states the money was taken through cash, check and electronic transactions. Three instances with a combined total over $100,000 are specifically referenced and the basis for the three counts of bank fraud.
This indictment was a result of a federal investigation. More detailed will be release as they become available.
