
On Janaury 30th, a 21 year old male from Steele was trasnported by private vehicle to te Steele Police Department with agunshot wound to his neck. First aid was administered until EMS arrived. The 21 year old male was then airlifted to a regional hospital for furhter medical treatment.
An investigation determined the man accidentally fired the pistol, resulting in the sefl-inflicted injury to his neck. Steele Chief of Police Billy Jo Stanfield thanks the Caruthersville Police Department and Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
Cheif Stanfield also reminds everyone to always follow basic safety rules when handling a gun. Most accidental or negligent discharges happen when someone has their finger on the trigger, has the firearm holstered improperly and/or fails to follow basic safety rules. He also encourages every gun owner to attend a basic firearm safety course.
