The MSHP responded to a fatal accident in Butler County on Monday.
The accident occurred on MO-53, three miles south of Poplar Bluff, early in the morning, just after midnight. The crash happened as a 2005 Ford F150, driven by a 61 year old male from Poplar Bluff, began backing up and struck a 57 year old male pedestrian from Portageville, who was outside of his vehicle. The pedestrian then struck a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.
The Portageville man was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced at 1:16am at Poplar Bluff Regional. This is Troop E fatality number two for 2026.
