On Sunday, August 3, 2025, at approximately 11:30 pm, officers with the Newbern Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at the Dollar General store located on Highway 77.
Upon arrival, officers observed the front door glass had been shattered. A review of video surveillance footage showed a white male suspect making forced entry into the store and leaving with stolen merchandise.
Through the efforts of the Newbern Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, the suspect was identified as Dillan Stewart, 27, of Ripley, Tennessee. On August 4, 2025 at approximately 10;30 am, investigators located Stewart in the area of Iris Circle in Newbern. Stewart attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended following a brief pursuit.
Stewart has been charged with Burglary, Theft of Property under $1,000, and Evading Arrest. He is currently housed at the Dyer County Law Enforcement Center pending an upcoming appearance in Newbern Municipal Court.
