On Wednesday around 6:00pm, Sikeston patrol officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 100 block of Autumn Drive. Upon arrival, officers immediately detected a strong odor of something burning, believed to be coming from the residence. After receiving no response at the front door, officers checked the perimeter of the home and observed a male subject in the backyard, as well as a smoldering mattress. Further investigation revealed a smoke filled room on the upper level and an active fire in the kitchen. Sikeston Fire personnel responded and successfully extinguished the fire. A joint investigation conducted by the Sikeston Fire Marshal and police detectives determined the fire was suspicious in nature.

Officers then placed 32 year old Justin Miller of Sikeston, under arrest on the Charge of Arson in the 1st degree. He is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond.
