DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Detectives with the Dyersburg Police Department have resolved a nearly five-year-old homicide case that went cold in 2021, following an extensive review of prior evidence and additional investigative work.

As part of the renewed investigation, detectives re-examined the original case file, collected supplemental evidence, and executed multiple search warrants. “It was a lot of connect the dots, really,” said Detective Sgt. Chuck Barrineau. “The search warrants played a significant role.”

Following the cold case review, the Dyer County Grand Jury indicted Jabrell Gauldin and Josh Livingston. With assistance from the United States Marshals Service, both individuals were taken into custody and are charged with first-degree murder in the October 2021 shooting death of Keaston Akins.

Dyersburg Police Chief Thomas Langford commended the investigative team for their persistence. “Our detectives did a great job in solving this case,” he said. “It demonstrates their dedication and commitment to resolving complex investigations, even those that have gone cold.”

The case remains under investigation. If anyone has further information regarding this case, please call 731-288-7022.
