
The Newbern Police Department has announced the arrest of a 22 year old female following a child abuse investigation.
In December 2025, the Newbern Police Department initiated an investigation after receiving reports of alleged misconduct involving an employee of Smarty Tots Too daycare facility located in Newbern. During the investigation, Investigators conducted interviews and reviewed available video surveillance.
As a result of the investigation, 22 year old Savannah Alexander of Obion, Tennessee, was charged with two counts of assault. She was processed at the Dyer County Law Enforcement Center and later released on bond pending an appearance in Newbern Municipal Court.
In the news release, Newbern Police Chief Greg Barr issued the following statement: “The safety and well-being of our children is one of the highest priorities of the Newbern Police Department. We take any report involving alleged abuse very seriously and are committed to conducting thorough and professional investigations. We appreciate the cooperation of the families and staff involved during this process.”
