The MSHP responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Saturday in New Madrid County, that sent multiple to the hospital.
The crash occurred at 7:00pm on US 61 at I-55, two miles north of New Madrid. The accident happened as a 2019 Kia Optima, driven by a 19 year old female from Caruthersville, was southbound and pulled into the path of a northbound 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by a 34 year old female from New Madrid, causing the Sonic to strike the Optima in the side.
The driver of the Optima received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Multiple occupants of the Sonic received minor to moderate injuries and were also transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, while the driver of that vehicle was air lifted to Region One Health in Memphis with moderate injuries.
