Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box reports that yesterday morning, deputies from the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the Lenox area. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered one male deceased from at least one gunshot wound. Another male had been shot and was transported by EMS with critical injuries.

The suspect, identified as 60 year old Sherry Darlene Lydon, fled the scene in a vehicle and, in an apparent attempt to commit suicide, collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on I-155. The suspect was transported by EMS later passed away from her injuries. The deceased male has been identified as William John Lydon Jr, Mrs. Lydon’s husband. The second male victim is the Lydon’s 24 year old son who was transported to a trauma center in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mrs. Lydon is suspected of fatally shooting her husband while he slept and shooting her son before leaving the residence. Mrs. Lydon had recently undergone surgery and was reportedly experiencing night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. These factors are being considered as the investigation continues. The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them at 731-285-2802.
