Dunklin County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Dicus announces that Cameron Kerbyson, 29, of Malden, was convicted after a jury trial on September 11th and 12th in Dunklin County in front of the Honorable H. Mark Preyer where a jury found him guilty of three counts of the class D felony of domestic assault in the second degree, and thirteen counts of the class D felony of tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.
These charges stem from an incident in Malden in May of 2023 where Cameron Kerbyson violently assaulted his then-girlfriend by striking her, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her in the face. This culminated with his grabbing her around the throat with one hand and smothering her mouth and nose with the other, nearly to the point of the victim losing consciousness. Mr. Kerybson’s mother called 911, and the Malden Police Department responded where they arrested him.
In the immediate future, Mr. Kerbyson repeatedly tampered with the victim. He attempted to convince her not to show up for required court appearances; to claim she filed a false police report, to claim she was “under duress” when she made the statement. He gave her money.
The Honorable Judge Preyer ordered sentencing to be set on November 6, 2025, at 11:00AM in the Dunklin County Justice Center. Mr. Kerbyson faces a possible total sentence of 112 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
“I was very happy to secure this verdict for the survivor of this violent attack. It sends a
clear message we will not tolerate men putting their hands on women. Survivors of domestic
violence have a whole team of advocates in our office, and we are proud to stand with them and
fight,” Ryan Dicus said.
This investigation was conducted by Captain Tony Burke and Officer Harley Dooley of the Malden Police Department, and Investigator Mark Dennis of the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
