In response to ongoing dry weather conditions and the heightened risk of fire, Fire Chief Lance Davis, in coordination with Mayor Jake Crafton, has issued a citywide burn ban effective immediately. This precautionary measure is intended to protect the safety of residents, property, and surrounding areas.
The burn ban prohibits the following activities within the City of Kennett:
-
Open burning of yard debris, including leaves, limbs, and grass
-
Trash or waste burning
-
Bonfires or other open pit fires
Chief Davis emphasized the importance of public cooperation: “These conditions create a very high risk for fires to spread quickly and endanger both people and property. We are asking all residents to comply with the ban until conditions improve.”
Violations of the burn ban are subject to penalties as provided by city ordinance. The ban will remain in effect until further notice, at which time residents will be informed once it is safe to resume outdoor burning.
