
HAYWOOD COUNTY, TENN. – A late night traffic stop this week on Interstate 40 in Haywood County by Agents of the Criminal Interdiction Unit with the West Tennessee Violent Crime and Drug Task Force resulted in yet another record breaking seizure. This time, more than 200 pounds of cocaine.
Agents assigned to patrol Interstate 40 in both Shelby and Haywood Counties stopped a commercial motor vehicle for a traffic violation Monday evening. During the traffic investigation, agents observed abnormalities in the tractor trailer and deployed a narcotics canine.
A four hour search was conducted of the trailer by agents who discovered two aftermarket compartments near the refrigeration unit of the trailer.
Agents forced open the compartments and discovered 90 wrapped kilos of cocaine weighing approximately 200 pounds. The drugs have a a street value estimated at nearly $9-million.
