
A Gideon man was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement yesterday at a residence in Gideon. According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to arrest 45-year-old Jeremy Southard for outstanding felony arrest warrants.
When deputies arrived at the residence and called Southard outside, he retreated into the residence and became noncommunicative. After multiple attempts, combined with information Southard may be armed, the decision was made to request the assistance of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety’s SWAT team.
A short time after the their arrival, Southard exited the residence.
Southard is charged through the state of Arkansas with felony probation violation and through Dunklin County with felony Resisting Arrest and Assault in the Fourth Degree.
The Gideon school was briefly locked down during the incident.
