Governor Mike Parson used his line item veto power to cut about one-billion dollars in new state budget items. Among his decisions was to cut in half a $10 million appropriation earmarked for the Bootheel Health Care Foundation in Dunklin County, a non-profit, whose goal is to bring a health care facility back to Kennett.

Hometown News reached out to State Senator Jason Bean yesterday who said the decision was made in part because a feasibility study on a potential hospital had not yet been completed. He still sees this as a big win, however, as the governor could have vetoed the entire amount.

The new fiscal  year in Missouri began Monday.
