Five people have been charged in last week’s shooting at The Store on Independence Ave in Kennett. Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain charged 19 year old Keonne Chaplin of Malden with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and tampering with physical evidence.

40 year old Jamison Taylor of Kennett is charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

35 year old Eric Thomas of Clarkton is charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

25 year old Herman Pounds of Kennett is charged with hindering prosecution of a felony and tampering with physical evidence.

31 year old Tanya Summers of Kennett is charged with hindering prosecution.

According to Jain, shots were fired Thursday afternoon about 3 p.m. Two vehicles left the scene, and officers located one of the vehicles and arrested Chaplin and Pounds. Upon reviewing video surveillance, police learned Chaplin shot from inside the store into the parking lot toward Taylor and Thomas. They shot toward Chaplin from outside and continued shooting as Chaplin left the parking lot. One of the bullets Chaplin fired struck a victim, who was taken to a hospital and later released.

Chaplin and Pounds are in the DCJC and held without bond. The other three are still at large. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact Kennett Police.
