JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jason Bean, R-Holcomb, Thursday issued the following statement regarding the closure of the Tyson Foods plant in Dexter:

“On Monday, Aug. 7, Tyson Foods announced their plant in Dexter will close on Oct. 13.

“This a disappointing decision by Tyson, and it will have devastating effects on this community. This plant was opened in the 1930s by Swift Poultry Co. Since then, the people of Dexter have made this plant what it is and fostered a strong relationship with the company.

“Now hundreds of people will be without work in just a few short months. Given this urgent situation, I am encouraging local businesses in Dexter and the surrounding area to contact my office with information on their job openings. Similarly, anyone who is looking for work may contact my office, and we will be glad to facilitate those conversations and connect employees with businesses.”
