Kennett School Board Holds March Session

The Kennett School Board heard a presentation during its March meeting from a local man who wants the high school soccer program reinstated. Billy Palmer made the presentation – there was no action taken by the Board.

The Board heard that total enrollment for the district was 1,776 students in February – a slight increase from January but a drop of 49 students from a year ago.

In other action: the Board approved a resolution calling for the State Board of Education to appoint a blue ribbon commission to study the current Missouri Foundation formula and ok’d the establishment of the Captain Robert Moore Memorial Scholarship.

During the closed session, the Board approved several resignation letters: Claire Jenkens (KMS Guided Study), Tori Bunting (7th Grade SPED teacher), Tara  Horton (4th Grade), and Jo Peel (2nd Grade).

Approval was given to KHS Girls Basketball Coach Aaron New and Assistant Coach Ronnie Lewallen to be relieved of those duties as was Jim Vaughan as KHS Cross Country Coach.

The Board hired for the next school year Kayla Durbin (2nd Grade), Amber Jones (Special Education), Ashlea Burrus (Spanish), Megan Weaver (Assistant Principal Masterson), Cassidy Gage (KMS/KHS assistant choir director), Kayleigh Wilkerson (2nd Grade), John Wheeler (7th Grade Communication Arts), Tiffany Patterson (2nd Grade), and Jamie Massey (KHS Social Studies).
