Three state lawmakers have weighed in on the scoring error that happened during last week’s Class 2A basketball quarter final game between Cooter and Principia. Letters from State Rep. Cameron Bunting Parker as well as Senators Jason Bean and Greg Razer  were sent to the executive director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

Razer, who represents Senate District 7 in the Kansas City area, is a Cooter native and called on MSHSAA to ‘pursue any and all remedies to ensure that the Cooter High School Men’s Basketball team has a fair shot at a state title.’

Bean wrote that it appeared MSHSAA did not follow policy, and Cooter’s scorekeeper was not provided a seat at the official score table, a practice that “is not customary and certainly should not have occurred at a MSHSAA sanctioned event.”

In her letter, Parker urged MSHSAA to rectify the situation and at minimum, “to establish better policy and procedure to guarantee this calamity will not happen to any student athlete in the future.”

Executive Director of MSHSAA Dr. Jennifer Rukstad admits a scoring error took place but the final score of last week’s game will stand.
