Talks Heat Up in State Capital about Five Day School Week

Lawmakers in Jefferson City are considering making the five day week mandatory in public schools. Several school districts in the area have moved to a four day week in the last couple of years. Kennett students attend classes five days a week, but Superintendent Dr. Chris Wilson says the proposed legislation would likely affect the district.

Wilson advocates a five day week but believes these decisions should be left to local school boards. State Senator Doug Beck of St. Louis County says he has broad, bipartisan support for mandating the traditional five-day school weeks.
