Missouri Regulators Work To Fix SO2 Pollution Issues In New Madrid County

An air quality hearing in Missouri’s capital yesterday centered on how to rid New Madrid County of sulfur dioxide pollution. Part of the county is out of compliance with EPA standards because of the Magnitude 7 aluminum smelter and the New Madrid Power Plant.

Under the Department of Natural Resources plan, Magnitude will have to build a $7 million stack to better dissipate its emissions, but…
