The Pemiscot Port Authority is getting a 1.9 million dollar grant to make port harbor improvements. The announcement was made yesterday by the US Department of Commerce. According to a news release, the Economic Development Administration grant will be matched with over 200-thousand dollars in local funds, and is expected to create more than 60 jobs and generate $11 million in private investment.

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development road map to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.

A spokesperson for EDA said the project will elevate the land to add flood mitigation infrastructure, create a new road, increase the capacity of existing businesses, and allow for future port expansion.
