After being found guilty of the October 2015 murder of Caroletta Hamilton, Crown D. King, 40, of Homestown, Missouri was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

According to a news release from the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Butler County Judge Michael M. Pritchett sentenced King to 30 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for murder in the second degree to be served consecutively to twenty years for armed criminal action.

At the sentencing hearing Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain presented victim impact testimony from Hamilton’s family and argued that the defendant is a violent, armed criminal who will continue to terrorize the community if he is ever released based on his prior convictions for the felonies of assault, receiving stolen property, failure to appear, forgery, and armed robbery. The defendant completed his parole for armed robbery less than five months before he murdered Hamilton.

During a two-day trial in July, Jain presented evidence that the defendant killed Carolletta Hamilton by shooting her while she was in the shower in her
apartment at Floyd Courts in Kennett. The defendant confessed the killing to his then girlfriend as well as to another inmate in the Dunklin County Jail when he was incarcerated pending trial.
