Poplar Bluff, murder suspect granted change of venue

POPLAR BLUFF, MO – A Butler County judge approved a motion filed by Rickey Hurt’s attorney asking for a change of venue to Wayne County.  Hurt is from Poplar Bluff and is accused of killing Edward Goodwin, who went missing in June 2015.

Authorities recovered his partial remains from a Butler County lake on a property off Butler County Road 572. Goodwin’s remains were found on Thursday, November 2, 2017, two years after the man went missing in June of 2015.

According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, Rickey Hurt is being held on a $300,000 cash only bond.

No cause of death has been determined at this time, but Dobbs believes Goodwin may have been shot. The sheriff said their information is that Goodwin was probably led to a rural area, beaten and killed.

Hurt will next appear in a Wayne County Courtroom in April.
