Ellison, sentenced for his role in beating death of Hayti man

According to court records Bert A. Ellison, 43, of Caruthersville, appeared in Butler County Courthouse on Tuesday, June 6, before Judge Michael Pritchett.

Ellison is charged with murder and armed criminal action in the death of David “Tray” L. Phelps, of Hayti, on September 24, 2015. Ellison entered a plea of guilty as charged to Class B Felony of Conspiracy to Commit Murder and was sentenced to five years Missouri Department of Corrections.

Ellison, is accused of beating Phelps to death in the driveway of his home on Swan Lake Drive in Hayti. Phelps’ body was found lying next to his car. His car had also been damaged by what investigators believe to be the same object.
