According to court records Chester D. Cummings, 48, of Hayti, appeared in Dunklin County Courthouse on Monday, June 5, before Judge Mark Preyer.
Cummings, was charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of David “Tray” L. Phelps, of Hayti, on September 24, 2015

he entered a guilty plea to murder 2nd degree and was sentenced to life in prison.
Phelps’ body was found lying next to his car in the driveway of his home on Swan Lake Drive in Hayti. Authorities say Phelps had been beaten to death with an unknown object.
