Steele man arrested for assault and assault on police officer.

According to Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield of the Steele Police Department in the early morning hours of January 7, Steele Police officer Michael Dodd responded to Deerfield Travel Center in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival officer Dodd was told by the store clerk that she had been physically assaulted by a man whom was still on the premises.

Officer Dodd attempted to arrest the man who was identified as 53 year old Raymond Joe Moody of Steele; Moody resisted arrest and struck officer Dodd in the face with his fist.

Officer Dodd then deployed his taser on Moody but the taser had no effect and the two then began to struggle; while the officer was attempting to place Moody in handcuffs; Moody reached into his waistband grabbing for a large knife.

Officer Dodd was subsequently able to place Moody in handcuffs and take away the knife. Pemiscot County Deputies arrived on the scene to assist the officer.

Steele Municipal Judge Steven Keating issued warrants on Moody, charging him with assault, assault on law enforcement, resisting arest, unlawful use of a weapon and trespassing first degree. Moody is currently incarcerated at the Pemiscot county Jail in lieu of a $5,262 bond through the City of Steele.

This case also been filed with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney for review of felony charges against Moody.
