The final Kennett City Council meeting for the year was pretty routine. During the session, Councilman Steve Panousis reported the city’s budget numbers.

Fire Chief Paul Spain urged the council to consider future discussions about FEMA safe houses in each ward.

In his remarks, Mayor Chancellor Wayne urged anyone interested in running for City Council to get to City Hall soon to file. The deadline is next Tuesday.

So far, there’s two races for council seats. In Ward 2 between incumbent John Mallott and former Councilman James Waynick, who previously represented Ward 1. Samantha Sebastian has filed to run against incumbent Jake McKuin in Ward 5. Incumbents Mike Harbrueger in Ward 1 and Steve Panousis in Ward 4 have filed. Harbrueger has filed for the one year term. There’s a two year term up for election in Ward 1 too. So far no one has filed for that seat. In Ward 3, Kevin Swain has filed for the two year term and Gary French, the incumbent, for the one year term.
