Two teenagers died following a crash early Saturday on I-55 at the 119 mile marker in Cape Girardeau County. According to the MSHP, killed were 18 year old Shayleigh Smith of Jackson and a 16 year old Hayti boy, whose name was not released.
The accident happened as their car was disabled, blocking both lanes on the bridge over Apple Creek. The front of the vehicle was struck by a pickup driven by a Memphis man. The impact of the crash caused the car to strike the juvenile, who was outside the vehicle.
The accident happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
