Decision Day: Primary 2020

election-day-2-2

It’s been a different kind of campaign in many ways — not much hand shaking or baby kissing — but lots of vitriolic advertising and social media bashing. Today, the primary season culminates with our decision. Voters can go to the polls until 7 p.m. tonight.

The race that has brought the most interest is the Missouri Senate race to replace Doug Libla. The four Republicans are Jason Bean, Jeff Shawan, Eddy Justice, and Steve Cookson. The winner of the primary today takes the seat as Democrats didn’t run a candidate.

The same is true in the 150th House District. The three-term incumbent, Andrew McDaniel, will term out with a win. His opponent is former Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff McCormick.

There’s just one county race in the Bootheel. That’s for Dunklin County Commission District 1 — the incumbent, Ron Huber, is running against Wes Shelton.

Yet voters decide more than just these races. There are choices in other state-wide offices.

While Mike Parson is expected to easily win the GOP nomination today, there’s three others running for governor against him: Raleigh Ritter, James Neely, and Saundra McDowell.

Nicole Galloway is running for the Democratic nomination and is expected to win, but she has opposition today: Jimmie Matthews, Antoin Johnson, and Eric Morrison.

Incumbent Mike Kehoe is running for Lt. Governor on the Republican side as are three others: Arnie Dienoff, Aaron Wisdom, and Mike Carter.

Two Democrats are running for the state’s number two spot: Gregory Upchurch and Alissia Cannady.

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick, and Attorney General Eric Schmitt are unopposed on the GOP side.

Two Democrats are running for Attorney General: Elad Gross and Rich Finneran.

Then there’s Amendment 2 — voters decide whether to expand Medicaid.
