Auditor Finds Fraud in Parma

A state audit says more than 115,000 dollars was taken from the city of Parma through fraud and bogus records. State Auditor Nicole Galloway says payroll overpayments and improper payments were made to the mayor, city clerk, city officials and others who were related to the mayor or the city clerk.

The audit shows the mayor and city clerk from 2015 to 2019 falsified meeting minutes and financial reports to cover up the fraud. During an investigation of whistleblower complaints, fires at city hall and the mayor’s home destroyed computers and records.

Galloway’s office is working with federal, state and local law enforcement.
