Local election results

Dunklin County will have a new Recorder of Deeds next year Connie Green of Kennett won Tuesday, August 8, Republican Primary. Longtime Recorder Susan Luce is retiring. 

In primary races contested across other counties in the BootheelVanessa Darnell won the Recorder of Deeds nomination for the Democratic Party over Anna-Baker Strawn in Pemiscot County. In Stoddard County, Danny Talkington won the Republican Primary for Presiding Commissioner. 

All other races on both tickets saw the incumbents winning their party’s nomination setting up the races for the November ballot. The counties have a week or so to certify their results.

Several tax issues were on the ballot countywide yesterday in Dunklin County. Both tax proposals in Campbell were defeated. 

Clarkton passed their sales tax.

Holcomb’s water and sewer issue on the ballot yesterday was a dead heat with a vote of 57 for and 56 against. That will have to be decided at a later date. 

In Pemiscot County, Caruthersville residents overwhelming approved improvements to their water and sewer system. 

New Madrid County voters in Portageville passed an ordinance allowing the schools to have security officers on campus but rejected the idea that the city should ban open burning of trash. 

Matthews passed a sales tax and the two proposals in Stoddard County to improve and maintain the Sheriff’s department and Stoddard County Jail passed.
