The Independence Township Board urges farmers to stop irrigation machinery from spraying on roads

The Independence Township Board is asking all farmers, landowners, and renters in Independence Township to help solve the problem of irrigation machinery spraying water on Township Roads and right of ways.

Independence Township Treasurer/Trustee Jay Rhew said in a news release Wednesday, August 1, 2018, that the practice is causing harm to the roads and making them hard to drive on.

Rhew said” if the practice is not stopped, the Independence Township Board will be forced to file suit according to Article 229.150 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri which reads in part that any person who shall willfully obstruct or damage any public road by turning water upon the road or right-of-way shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and if convicted could be fined up to two hundred dollars and sentenced to jail”.
