CAPE GIRARDEAU  – Local, regional and national employers are registered to meet Southeast Missouri State University students of all majors and Southeast alumni at the spring 2018 Career Expo March 1 in the Student Recreation Center.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students interested in exploring internships or career and job opportunities will be able to meet people from organizations directly related to their field of study.

Organizations planning to attend the fair represent a local, regional, national and international spectrum, including Cushman & Wakefield, Enterprise Rent A Car, NISC, Edward Jones, Fastenal and Ladue School District. Additionally, Sugarfire Smoke House, which plans to open this summer in Cape Girardeau, will be in attendance to connect with students and alumni who are considering part-time employment.

This will give students the chance to meet someone in their respective field across a variety of sectors. A complete, updated list of participating employers can be found on the Career Services website at http://www.semo.edu/pdf/career_expo_spring_employers.pdf.

The expo is a great opportunity for Southeast students and alumni to network with employers and learn about their options after graduation, said Dan Presson, director of Southeast’s Career Services

“These employers know that Southeast students make incredible employees, and return each year to directly recruit our students,” he said. “With over 120 employers and graduate programs in attendance, there are opportunities for students of all ages and majors to connect with.”

Students who attend the fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring an updated copy of their resume and research each company they plan to visit ahead of time.

According to Career Services, professional dress consists of a dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks for men. For women the preferred dress is a dress blouse (nothing low cut, tight or that shows midriff), jackets/twin sweater sets, modest length skirts, dresses, pant suits and dress shoes. If students do not have these particular garments, collared shirts, khaki pants and dress shoes are acceptable.

Students needing help or preparation before the fair, can attend Career Services’ Walk-in Wednesdays Feb. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Photoshoot Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 23 to have a headshot taken for use in professional social media; or schedule a practice interview session by calling (573) 651-2583.

Students, even if they are unable to attend the Career Expo, are encouraged to upload their resume to www.redhawkjobs.com where employers will be able to view students’ resumes after the event.
