PPD makes several arrest including, shoplifting, possession of meth, marijuana

PORTAGEVILLE, MO – According to Chief Ronnie Adams, on December 4, at approximately 1:30 am officers observed a white male walking eastbound on East 8th Street near the intersection of Baker Ave. Officers made contact with the subject who was identified as Michael Angel, 18 of Portageville.

During the investigation officers noticed Angel had his left hand in his pocket and was asked if he had anything illegal on him and he said, no. Officers then conducted a pat down of this person for officer safety. While conducting the pat down, officers located a small corner baggie of marijuana from his right front pocket.

The marijuana field tested positive for the presence of THC and weighed 1 gram. Angel was arrested for possession of marijuana and released on summons to appear in municipal court on January 4, 2018 before Judge Chris Stinnett.


On December 6, at approximately 10:57 pm officers were dispatched to the Dollar General Store in reference to an individual who was sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot.

Officers arrived and observed a black 2002 Chevrolet S-10 sitting in the parking lot and a male subject with his head down who appeared to be sleeping. During the investigation officers conducted a pat down search and located a cylinder object in the males subjects left thigh pocket of his cargo pants. Officers located a white cylinder bottle which inside of it contained 1 plastic bag with a white crystal substance which tested positive for methamphetamine, 1 plastic bag with a brown substance which tested positive for methamphetamine, and 1 plastic bag with what was identified as marijuana.

The suspect was asked if he had anything else in the vehicle and he stated yes, in a Dollar General Store bag which was located in the drivers seat and passenger seat. Officers located one plastic containing different sizes of plastic little bags and 2-AAA batteries. One blue case containing a small silver scale which tested positive for methamphetamine, one purple eye glass case containing glass pipe with a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, Also, one black weigh max scale.

Officers also located a black North American Arms Firearm case which contained three glass pipes that tested positive for methamphetamine, one silver spoon also tested positive for methamphetamine, one black zip up bag containing one green pill with markings (s902) identified as Alprazolam 1 mg using drug.com online pill identifier.

Officers arrested John Thomas Hayes, 51, of Caruthersville. Hayes was arrested and transported to the Pemiscot County Jail. Formal charges were filed by New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson, for possession of controlled substance.

Hayes Chevrolet S-10 pickup was seized and taken to New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office and forfeiture paperwork will be turned over to Prosecutor’s office.


On December 8, at approximately 11:03 am, officers were dispatched to 1300 block of Huffman in reference to an assault. Dispatch advised responding officers that an ambulance had been requested as well. Upon arrival they met with a  black make outside of the residence. The male told officers him and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument. Upon further investigation officers learned the male had assaulted his girlfriend.

The female victim was treated by New Madrid County Ambulance personnel and refused transport to the hospital.

Officers arrested Michael Maynard, 17, of Portageville for domestic assault. Maynard was transported to the Pemiscot County Jail. Formal charges were filed by Portageville Prosecuting Attorney Amy Pryor. Maynard is being held on a $500.00 cash only bond and is set to appear in Portageville Municipal Court on January 4, 2018 before Judge Chris Stinnett.


On December 10, at approximately 12:00 pm, officers were dispatched to Dollar General in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival officers spoke with the store manager who identified the suspect. A complaint was signed and officers Stephanie Mullins, 38, of New Madrid for stealing.

Mullins was processed and released on a summons to appear in Portageville Municipal Court before Judge Chris Stinnett, on January 4, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
