Special prosecutor appointed in case of pedestrian killed

STODDARD COUNTY – A special prosecutor Andrew Lawson, Prosecuting Attorney in New Madrid County, was appointed to prosecute the cases of Wesley Faries, 39, and his father Garey Faries, 76, both from Puxico.

According to the Mpedestrian_killedissouri State Highway Patrol report Garey Faries, 76, was arrested on February 18, at approximately 9:14 p.m., on charges of hindering the prosecution of a felony and making a false police report.

Wesley G. Faries, 29, was arrested on February 18, at approximately 9:20 p.m., on charges of involuntary manslaughter first degree, felony.

The charges stem from an accident that killed Phillip Manning, 21, of Sikeston, MO., on Friday, February 17, at approximately 12:05 am.

Wesley L. Faries, 39, of Puxico, was going south on MO 51, just one mile south of Puxico, when he hit a man who was in the middle of the road. The victim, identified as Phillip A. Manning, 21, of Sikeston, MO.  Manning, was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope.

The Missouri Highway Patrol indicated that the Faires vehicle was travelling at a speed of 112 miles per hour when he struck Manning.
