Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield reports the Steele Police Department is aware of concerns circulating within the community regarding a male subject who has reportedly been driving throughout the city and allegedly attempting to make contact with children.
Officers contacted with the individual on multiple occasions and are aware of his presence in the community. At this time, the department has not received any reports or information indicating that the individual has approached or spoken with children, nor has any information been received establishing that he has committed a criminal offense.
The safety of children and all members of our community remains a top priority. The Steele Police Department takes concerns of this nature seriously and will continue to monitor the situation and follow up on any credible information or reported incidents brought to our attention.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or specific incidents directly to the Steele Police Department. Parents and guardians should remain attentive and remind children not to approach or enter a vehicle with anyone they do not know. If anyone has personally witnessed the subject attempting to contact a child, or observes any suspicious or concerning behavior, please contact the Steele Police Department immediately.
