Pemiscot County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Dicus announced today that his office has filed charges against several individuals in connection with the August 1st shooting in Caruthersville.
Domonique Benson, 38 of Caruthersville, is charged with Murder – 2nd Degree, two counts of Assault – 1st Degree, three counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Robbery – 1st Degree, Tampering with Evidence, and four counts of Armed Criminal Action. Chaddric Benson, 40 of Caruthersville, is charged with Murder – 2nd Degree, Robbery – 1st Degree, Assault – 1st Degree, Tampering with Evidence, and three counts of Armed Criminal Action.
In addition to those defendants, Casundra Anderson, 49 of Caruthersville, has been charged with Harassment – 1st Degree, and D’ariea Carter, 34 of Festus, and Edward Shackelford, 30 of Jonesboro, have both been charged with Interference with a First Responder.
Warrants were issued on all of these individuals by the Honorable William W. Carter. All are currently being held in the Pemiscot County Jail with no bond.
These charges arise from a shooting in which three individuals were struck by gunfire at and around Wesley’s Quik Mart on Ward Avenue in Caruthersville on Saturday, August 1st.
The charges against Anderson, Carter, and Shackelford arise from conduct that allegedly occurred while law enforcement officers were rendering lifesaving aid to the victims and securing the scene for evidence collection. Additional charges against other individuals are anticipated for similar interference.
The filing of criminal charges is merely an accusation. Each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
