New Madrid County Voters Face Several Races and Issues

The municipal/school board election is two weeks from today. In New Madrid County, voters will decide several races.

In Portageville, four people are running for the three open seats on the school board: Patty Johnson, Mark Moody, Matt Brasher, and Chad Bradley.

Vince Berry and Rodi Walker are running for mayor in Portageville. Kristine Adams and Lynn Doering are candidates for alderman in Ward 1.

Portageville voters will also decide the fate of a three cent sales tax on marijuana sales, a 2.25% percent use tax, and whether or not the Board of Alderman will get the authority to appoint a city collector.

In Matthews, three people are running for two seats for alderman: Travis Russom, Mike Wareham, and Larry Steven Lynn. Voters in Matthews will also decide whether to impose a three cent sales tax on marijuana sales.

Two people are running for mayor at Parma: Kim Hampton and Rufus Williamson. In Ward 1, the candidates are Mark Scallion and Simon Lerma.

There’s a two person race for Ward 2 alderman in Lilbourn: Michael Henry and Denise Comstock.

In Marston, Kim Reno and Jeremy Ruby are running for North Ward alderman.

In New Madrid, there’s a race for Ward 2 alderman between Nicolas White and Jonathan Wayne Riggs.

Morehouse voters will decide whether the Board of Alderman can appoint a city collector and police chief and whether or not to impose a local use tax at the same rate of the local sales tax.

Voters across New Madrid County will decide whether to continue the ½ cent sales tax that funds transportation infrastructure improvements. Continuing the sales tax will maintain the current 50% reduction in the road and bridge property tax rate.
