Kennett Police Report June 2 – 6, 2018

June 6, 2018

At approximately 7:45 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Slicer Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone had stolen items out of the victim’s vehicle. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 11:19 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the Oaklawn Circle area in reference to a subject trespassing on the property owned by the Kennett Housing Authority. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect had fled on foot prior to arrival, however, located him in another section of the property in the 900 block of Depot Street. At that point, officers arrested 39-year-old Dennis Shumate of Hayti for trespassing. Shumate was later released on a Kennett Municipal Court summons pending his court date.

At approximately 11:50 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Slicer Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone had stolen an item from the residence and were able to identify a suspect. At the time of this report, the suspect has not been located.

At approximately 2:01 pm, officers arrested 34-year-old Susie Cortez of Clarkton on an active state of Missouri warrant issued out of Dunklin County. Cortez was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only.

At approximately 8:13 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Ninth Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that neither party involved wished to pursue charges and one party agreed to leave voluntarily.

At approximately 10:30 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Whitney and Frisco. During the stop, officers subsequently arrested 19-year-old Kenneth Canday on an active Missouri Probation and Parole violation warrant. Canday was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only.


June 5, 2018, At approximately 5:51 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North Jackson Street in reference to a dog had attacked a person while they were walking their dog. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect dog had not been restrained nor supervised and attacked the reporting party and their dog while they were walking. After a complaint was signed, Officers subsequently arrested 39-year-old Donna Turner of Kennett Leash Law violation. Turner was later released on a Kennett Municipal Court summons pending her court date.

At approximately 9:38 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Floyd Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone had stolen items from the victim’s vehicle. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 11:10 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Beaton Street in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a subject had entered the victim’s residence armed with a knife, pushed the victim to the floor, and stole the victim’s wallet before fleeing on foot. Officers were able to identify the suspect and later located/arrested 21-year-old Cedric Burton of Kennett. Burton was arrested for 1st Degree Robbery and held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

At approximately 3:05 pm, officers arrested 40-year-old Jason Spicer of Kennett on an active Dexter Municipal warrant. Spicer was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only.

At approximately 3:17 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Compress Court in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, neither party involved wished to pursue charges and one party left voluntarily.

At approximately 5:34 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Floyd Street in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, officers learned that while the victim was away, someone entered the residence and stole several items. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 6:45 pm, officers arrested 20-year-old Aaron Buck of Clarkton on an active Kennett Municipal warrant. Buck posted bond and was released with a new court date.

At approximately 10:20 pm, officers went to a residence in the 600 block of Whitney Street to serve a felony arrest warrant. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect standing outside the residence. As officers exited their vehicles, the suspect fled on foot and was last seen entering a wooded area north of Whitney Street. After losing sight of the suspect, officers set up a perimeter around the area and contacted the department’s K-9 Unit. Upon arrival, K-9 Gabriel conducted a successful track located the suspect hiding in the brush within the wooded area. At that point, officers arrested 28-year-old J.W. Taylor of Kennett on an active Missouri Probation and Parole warrant. Taylor was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant as well as on a twenty-four-hour hold for resisting arrest pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

At approximately 3:30 am, officers arrested 32-year-old Deana Fuller of Malden on an active Kennett Municipal warrant. Fuller was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only.

At approximately 10:17 am, officers were met at the Kennett Police Department in reference to a theft. Officers learned that a lawn mower had been stolen from the victim’s residence in the 300 block of East Sixth Street. At the time of this report, there are no suspects.

At approximately 12:17 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Emerson Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that one party had already left the residence. At the time of this report, the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 5:04 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Wiggs Street in reference to vandalism. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone had caused damage to the victim’s vehicle and residence within the last couple weeks. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 7:24 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Eighth Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone had stolen an air conditioner unit from the residence. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 7:36 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of North Main Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that neither party wished to pursue charges and one party involved left for the evening.

At approximately 10:49 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Everett and Beaton Streets. During the stop, the suspect exited the vehicle and began fleeing from officers on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the subject was apprehended and detained. At that point, officers utilized the department K9 to conduct an article search in an attempt to locate anything the suspect may have discarded during the foot pursuit. During the article search, K-9 Gabriel located and alerted to a container which contained a baggie containing an undisclosed amount of Methamphetamine and several individually wrapped baggies of synthetic marijuana. At that time the suspect, 40-year-old Calvin Harrell of Kennett, was placed under arrest for Resisting Arrest, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Synthetic Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute. Harrell was also arrested on an active warrant previously issued by the Missouri Probation and Parole board and an active state of Missouri warrant issued out of Butler County. Harrell was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrants as well as on a hold pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

At approximately 1:02 am, officers 47-year-old Stacy Bodiford of Caruthersville on an active Kennett Municipal warrant. Bodiford was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only.

At approximately 4:05 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Clipper Street in reference to a missing juvenile. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the juvenile had gone outside and could now not be located. The juvenile was later located turned over to the Dunklin County Juvenile Office.

At approximately 3:04 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of North Lincoln Circle in reference to property damage. Upon arrival, officers noted that someone had been either entering to attempting to enter vehicles in the area causing damage to one of them. Upon further investigation, video surveillance in the area was recovered and officers were able to identify a suspect. Officers later located and arrested 24-year-old Nicholas Morrison of Kennett for Property Damage 1st Degree. Morrison was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

At approximately 7:57 am, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Lester Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that during the night, someone had entered the victim’s vehicle and stole a purse. At the time of this report, this incident is still under investigation.

At approximately 1:19 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2700 block of Independence in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had set their purse down on a table at a yard sale and upon returning to it discovered items missing from within. At the time of this report, there are no suspects.

At approximately 6:21 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of North Everett Street in reference to a subject trespassing. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect had previously been advised by officers, at the request of the homeowner, that she was no longer wanted at the residence. Officers learned that the suspect had returned at which point the homeowner signed a complaint for trespassing. Officers later located and arrested 24-year-old Meghan Freeman of Kennett for trespassing. Freeman was later released on a Kennett Municipal Court summons pending her court date.

At approximately 7:09 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of Independence in reference to a juvenile causing problems. Upon arrival, officers subsequently detained the juvenile and transported them to the Kennett Police Department where the juvenile was then turned over to the Dunklin County Juvenile office.

At approximately 11:34 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Wiggs and Washington Streets in reference to a male subject bleeding from the head. Upon arrival, officers located the male who advised that his girlfriend had struck him in the head with his cell phone but that he did not wish to pursue charges.
