At approximately 12:18am, officers were dispatched to the Jan Motel located on Independence Avenue in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, and during subsequent investigation, officers spoke with all parties involved. Due to conflicting accounts of what actually took place during the incident, this incident still remains under investigation.

At approximately 1:58 am, officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Washington and Walnut Streets. During the stop and after subsequent investigation, officers arrested Bruce McCormick, 33, of Kennett, for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony No Drivers License. McCormick was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges. Also arrested, Brittany Scales, 26 of Kennett. Scales was arrested on an active Kennett Municipal warrant for failing to appear and with a bond of $100 cash only. Scales later posted bond and was released with a new court date.

At approximately 9:56 am officers were contacted at the Kennett Police Department in reference to an assault that had occurred at the 84 West Motel. During subsequent information, officers learned that a male had assaulted a female during the night by striking her once in the face then throwing her to the ground. It should be noted that the male fled after the assault and is believed to have returned to his residence in South Carolina. The investigation is still on going.

At approximately 10:31 am officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Slicer Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers took a report regarding a stolen cell phone. At the time of this report the suspect is unknown.

At approximately 12:52 pm officers were dispatched to the D&R Steakhouse on Independence Avenue in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers noted that someone had cut and removed copper tubing from the businesses walk in cooler and other appliances in the rear of the store. At the time of this report, there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with any information is urged to contact our department.

At approximately 2:19 pm officers were dispatched to the Missouri Probation and Parole office regarding a wanted person. Upon arrival, officers arrested Richard Cruse, 53, of Smartsman, Ar., on an active warrant for violating the terms of his probation and/or parole. Cruse was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant only and with no bond.

At approximately 5:37 pm officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar Store on First Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers completed a private property accident form.

At approximately 6:32 pm officers were dispatched to Safehaven located on the North Bypass in regards to a person refusing to leave the property. Upon arrival and after subsequent investigation, officers arrested William Douglas, 52, for failing to obey a lawful order, assault 3rd degree on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. Douglas was transported to and held in the Dunklin County Justice Center where he was placed on a twenty-four hour hold pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

At approximately 9:09 pm officers were advised that school officials had received information regarding a possible threat that was made toward a school in Kennett. Upon subsequent investigation, a juvenile was located and detained. The juvenile was later turned over to the Dunklin County Juvenile Office. It should be noted that the purported threat was deemed as unfounded at the time of this release.

At approximately 10:05 pm officers arrested Tracy Tanner, 47, of Wardell, on an active Kennett Municipal warrant for failing to appear on the original charge of a traffic violation. Tanner was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center with a bond of $100 cash only.

At approximately 10:56 pm officers took a report at the Kennett Police Department in regards a counterfeit currency bill being passed. At the time of this report there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.
