Man Convicted of Murder in Feud With Farmer Over Herbicide

A Mississippi County, Arkansas Circuit Court jury late Thursday convicted Allan Curtis Jones, of Arbyrd, Missouri of second degree murder in the shooting of Mike Wallace of Leachville, Arkansas, who accused Jones of applying dicamba to crops which Wallace said drifted onto his land and damaged plants.

Jones had admitted to shooting Wallace last October. Wallace had called Jones and accused him of using the herbicide dicamba, a Monsanto weed killer that farmers in several states have said drifts onto crops and causes damage.

Wallace had said dicamba damaged his pear trees along the Missouri-Arkansas border.

Prosecutors said Jones shot Wallace seven times when they met on a county road in Leachville, AR.

Circuit Judge Cindy Thyer gave a $50,000 appeal bond last night to Jones after the trial in Blytheville.

Jones was sentenced to 24 years in prison after a jury convicted him with killing Mike Wallace.
