Some Hornersville residents met recently to discuss the suspension of Hornersville Police Chief

Some Hornersville residents met recently to discuss the suspension of the Hornersville Police Chief Larry Jarred in August of this year.

A group met to discuss what they called a lack of law enforcement, bullying tactics from Hornersville Mayor Cathy Ward and certain aldermen and padlocking City Hall.

Suspended Police Chief Larry Jarred, was in attendance and recalled the suspension process. “I received a letter almost two months ago that they were filing a petition to impeach me,” said Jarred. “That immediately I was to turn in all my equipment and my keys. I’m not allowed on any city property and I’m not being paid.” Jarred continued, “I’ve made fifteen calls to the mayor and the only thing they’ll tell me is, have your attorney call our attorney and we’ll get it set up.”

Hornersville Mayor Cathy Ward and City Attorney James Keen, addressed these concerns last Friday, saying: “there will be an impeachment hearing in front of the council, “ said Keen. “That hearing will take place and either be open or closed at Mr. Jarred’s discretion.” Keen continued, “His suspension, per the letter he was given, was for 45 days or until the hearing. He has not been impeached. He has not been removed from office currently.” Jarred is currently suspended of all duties and is not allowed on city property.

The Hornersville City Council met at 6:00 p.m. last night and we’ll have more on the story tomorrow.
