Steele Police Attacked With Fireworks

According to Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield a group of people in Steele were shooting fireworks and throwing explosives at his officers July fourth.

Authorities received reports on Tuesday, July 4, in the evening of unruly people on Barnes Street. When officers arrived, he said they saw a group of unruly people shooting fireworks in an unsafe manner.

When police officers got out of their patrol cars, Stanfield said explosives were thrown toward the officers. Stanfield said the large crowd refused to disperse and more explosives were thrown at officers.

Pemiscot County deputies arrived to assist Steele police and disperse  the crowd. The chief said no officers were injured but one person was arrested and more arrests are expected once the investigation is over.
