On Monday, July 3, 2017 at approximately 1:58 a.m., the Kennett Police Department was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of White Oak Place in reference to an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the unwanted guest had already left. While checking the area around the residence, officers discovered a fire in the rear part of the residence. The Kennett Fire Department was notified to respond while the house, which was occupied by four adults and nine children, was evacuated.

After the fire was extinguished, investigators with the Kennett Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office were called to the scene at which point it was determined that the fire had intentionally been set.

Through further investigation, officers were able to locate and arrest Deontae Dunn, 20, of Kennett. Dunn is being held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

Investigators have forwarded formal paperwork to the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office recommending the filing of the following formal charges: Arson 1st Degree, thirteen counts of Domestic Assault 1St Degree, and nine counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
