STEELE, MO., – On Saturday,  March 25, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to Flash Market in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival officers attempted to arrest the suspect who was identified at Lawrence Arender, 35, of Steele.

Arender, resisted arrest and began to fight with the officers. Officer Joshua Carter deployed his taser and Arender, was subsequently detained. Chief Billy Joe Stanfield received minor injuries  while attempting to arrest Arender.

A report was filed with the city Prosecuting Attorney and a warrant was issued by Judge Stephan Keating, charging Arender, with shoplifting, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer .

Arender, is being held at the Pemiscot County Jail in lieu of a $1,549.50 bond.

On Sunday, March 26, Mary Homesly, reported to police that her home on North First Street had been burglarized, the door of the residence was forced opened. Items missing was a home laptop and three tablets.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Steele Police Department.
